Auto Transports—Choose a Company You Trust

Auto transports are companies that specialize in shipping vehicles from one destination to another. Most auto transports have similar rules and guidelines, but, of course, it is highly recommended to speak with a representative from the company before you sign any paperwork or decide which auto transport to work with.
Auto Transports Guidelines
When preparing to have your automobile transported, there are some steps you should take to make the process easier for everyone involved.

1.The driver must inspect your car before he or she transports it. This is definitely a rule for all auto transports. So, in order for inspection to go smoothly, you should clean you car thoroughly. That means before transport, take your car to a car wash and get the works. Vacuum the inside of your car and make sure that there is no food or drink remnants left behind.

2.Remove all personal items from the inside of your car before the driver inspects the vehicle. All auto transports are not responsible for items left in your car, such as CDs, cassettes, towels, stuffed animals, jackets, or any other household items.

If you are transporting your car in the United States, some auto transports allow you to have some items in your trunk, although most do not. If you are shipping overseas, positively no items are allowed in your car. The shipping ports simply will not accept your vehicle. Be aware that there is not exceptions to this rule.

3.Limit the gas in your tank to a quarter full. This decreases the weight of your car making it easier to ship

4.Remove all automobile equipment that is not part of the factory-installed equipment. Auto transports are not responsible for loose items, such as cell phones, radar detectors, car phone antennas (radio antennas must be retracted), exterior spare tire covers, grill covers, car covers, or any kinds of racks to store sporting equipment.

5.Fix any chips or dents in your car’s exterior. And, if possible, fix any problems. Your car must not have any obvious fluid leaks.

What Kind of Vehicles Do Auto Transports Use?
Auto transports typically use two types of vehicles when transporting cars in the United States.

Open Carrier—Almost all auto transports use open carrier vehicles. Some of these vehicles can carry up to 10 cars. They are the same type of trucks that are used to deliver cars to dealerships. This means that they are open to the weather elements. The trucks are usually 75 to 80 feet long and are 13 feet high. This makes them restricted to main highways.
Enclosed Carrier—The freight area of enclosed carriers are covered. These kinds of carriers protect your car from weather conditions and road debris, such as rocks and sand. If you have a custom or expensive car, most auto transports will recommend you use an enclosed carrier.

How Far in Advance Should I Schedule the Transport?
Most auto transports recommend scheduling the transport as soon as possible. Many agree that they need at least a week’s notice to be capable of shipping your car. However, many can make exceptions for people who are in need of immediate transport. Most companies are happy to work with you and your individual needs.

How do you choose an auto transport company when there are so many for the picking? Well, you have to be prepared with questions before you visit any of the auto transports in your area. To receive a price quote, make sure you know the date of departure, what kind of car you want to transport, and what types of service you are interested in. This will make the price quote more accurate, and then you may be able to go ahead and choose the right auto transport company for you.
